Scrabble Day Challenge
Can you beat the World Scrabble Champion? In honour of the birth of Alfred Mosher Butts, born on April 13, 1899, Mindsports Academy will be running various games for National Scrabble Day.
Brett Smitheram from Chingford defeated fellow Briton Mark Nyman in three straight rounds during the contest's final in the French city of Lille in 2016. The 37-year-old's highest scoring word was BRACONID, meaning a parasitic wasp, which earned him 176 points.
Most recently he took the top title in the Northern Ireland Championships held in Belfast earlier this year.
Brett has been playing competitive tournament Scrabble for 20 years and has been consistently one of the highest rated players in the UK and world, as he is the world number 1, and has won the trophy for UK highest rated player on 3 occasions.
