A Small Step To Victory
Mindsports are beginning to be recognised in the category of sport
At the beginning of 2017 Mindsports Academy, with the support of Ambassadors; Olympian Sam Quek and 2016 World Scrabble Champion Brett Smitheram, began the campaign to have mindsports recognised within the sport category using the tag Make Mind A Sport.
It appears MSA were not alone in this campaign as the English Bridge Union have been pushing their mindsport to be recognised, with some success.
With the mindsport of chess already recognised in the category, others are beginning to follow suit. This morning, 16th June 2017, Bridge was added to the list.
Maciej Szpunar, the advocate-general to the European Court of Justice, said that bridge was a sport because it required mental effort as part of a challenge, noting that European Union law had no definition of sport beyond excluding games of chance.
