Countdown To Lille

Countdown To Lille

A letter from the Tournament Director. We would like to ensure that we have enough time to do the pairings therefore we would like players to register at (Location) from 11am-9pm on Tuesday, August 30. Each player needs to appear in person and ensure that the tournament fee is paid in full. We understand that some players are arriving late on August 30 and may not register on time. We will still accept registrations on August 31 from 8am to 8.45 am. Players who arrive after 8.45am will not be eligible to play and the tournament fee will be forfeited.

Dear Participants

Thank you for registering for the MSI World Scrabble Championship. This player pack contains all the information that you will need for the tournament.

Playing Venue

Hotel/Accommodation:

There are numerous hotels around the Grand Palais and with the cancellation of the Braderie, a lot of cheaper options have opened up.

Due to the enhanced security measures we have in place, play will begin at 10am on Wednesday August 31. Please ensure that you bring a valid form of identification such as your Passport or Driver’s License for verification purposes.

Tournament Rules:

We are using WESPA rules for this event and the rules may be found here: http://www.wespa.org/rules/rulesv3.pdf

Please ensure that you familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations as only these will be used in play.

Tournament Format:

The tournament will be played using a modified Swiss System

Challenge:

Five point penalty per word challenged in a move, added to the player's score.  Also if you have a hand held device meeting with the description in WESPA rules then you will be able to use that for self-adjudication if you wish - remember Zyzzyva and Zarf are the only allowed self-adjudication software - if loaded with CSW15.

Dictionary:

CSW 15

Playing Equipment:

All boards / tiles / racks are provided at Lille.

However due to the fantastic attendance levels this year we may need, if you have one, a digital timer (no analogue chess clocks please).  Please email me if you are indeed bringing your digital timer so that we can plan appropriately.

Filming:

We have the wonderful Siobhan back with us to film the event and live stream the RFID board. There will be a media team from Mattel on the Wednesday and Final weekend to film all the Scrabble action. A member of staff will be taking photographs for the Mindsports Academy website and to share on our Facebook page, the live stream link will be made available via the website and Facebook page. After the event videos will be uploaded to the MSA website, available to members, for future viewing. The fantastic Jesse Matthews and Robin Pollock Daniel will be live commentating with our roving reporter Daniel Stembridge.

Don’t forget, in preparation for the championships, visit the Mindsports Academy Sports Room www.mindsportsacademy.com/sportsroom#Scrabble  and practice your Scrabble skills against the computer and other players. Membership is free.

Yours Sincerely

Ganesh Asirvatham

(Tournament Director)
