Wednesday Wordlore

Singlish - Manglish

The Oxford dictionary March 2016 updates sees a bunch of words from Singlish (Singaporean-English). Words such as Ang Moh (a Caucasian) or Shiok (awesome) have entered the lexicon.

Fortunately or unfortunately, these words have no bearing on Scrabble as we depend on Collins for our lexicon.

Neighbouring Malaysia has also seen a quite a few Manglish words (Malaysian-English) enter the lexicon.

This week’s wordlore will look at 10 words which have Malaysian origins.

  1. KOMA
  2. MASSA
  3. RADUNI
  4. GAJA
  5. KANI
  6. HUKE
  7. DAPANG
  8. KAJOR
  9. LAMBAS
  10. GRITING
