Deck Of The Day #45 - Delirium In Standard

Deck Of The Day #45 - Delirium In Standard

Last Monday we discussed how the first major tournament of the new Standard had little innovation (only the WB Angels could be classified as "new"). However, there are still hope for you innovators out there - Todd Stevens, which created the Modern planeswalkers deck we discussed some weeks ago, run this deck to an 11-4 finish.

4 Gnarlwood Dryad
4 Grim Flayer
3 Sylvan Advocate
3 Den Protector
4 Deathmist Raptor
2 Mindwrack Demon
1 Ishkanah, Grafwidow
4 Dead Weight
4 Grasp of Darkness
4 Ruinous Path
4 Liliana, the Last Hope
2 Evolving Wilds
4 Llanowar Wastes
4 Hissing Quagmire
8 Swamp
6 Forest

4 Transgress the Mind
3 Aerial Volley
2 Ishkanah, Grafwidow
2 Duress
2 Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
1 Den Protector
1 Languish

As you can see from the decklist, the deck is built on the Delirium mechanic; Once we have it online we can play a lot of undercosted threats. Whether this is feasible or not depends on the quality of the enablers - what do we have in terms of enablers?

First of all, our 12 removal spells are 4 of each type: Enchantment, Instant, Sorcery (and they help Grim Flayer to connect). Second: Liliana, the Last Hope carries a lot of weight at enabling Delirium, thanks to her second ability. Some Mindwrack Demon and some Evolving Wilds and we should be able to turn on Delirium on turn 3rd - 4th.

What do we have in terms of payoff cards? Gnarlwood Dryad and Mindwrack Demon are the most obvious, but I would like to draw your attention to Ishkanah, Grafwidow. At first I discarded it (her?) as just a card for Commander. However, the more I look at it, the more it resembles me to Hornet Queen. It is great at dragging the game and them winning just by activating its ability.

We are of course waiting for the Pro Tour to bring more innovation, but don't Dismiss what we have so far. Will you try this at the FNM this morning?
