As you know by now, Modern is a format with a huge card pool. Last weekend gave us 2 Modern GPs, and 2 Modern GPs mean plenty of new decks and ideas to check. Another one that took my attention was this little gem that Chris Donati used to earn 2 byes at a GP Trial in Los Angeles
4 Goblin Guide
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Goblin Bushwhacker
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Legion Loyalist
2 Goblin Piledriver
3 Mogg War Marshal
4 Reckless Bushwhacker
4 Goblin Grenade
3 Devastating Summons
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Smash to Smithereens
4 Forked Bolt
4 Reality Hemorrhage
We have already seen Goblin decks in Modern, as a tier2 strategy - some people expected Goblin Piledriver to make it a tier1, but it was not to be. However, there is another tiny goblin that sure is pulling his weight: Reckless Bushwhacker.
Now we have two copies of the same effect, so cards like Mogg War Marshall or, even better, Devastating Summons, are more lethal. I love that we are able now to run 20 Mountains, so we are less prone to manascrew. The deck is as quick as before, only more consistent. The opponent will tap out low to play mass removal: Pyroclasm, Firespout... and we will be free to play Devastating Summons + any Bushwhacker, which is 10 damage minimum. Lightning Bolt or Goblin Grenade will do Wonders as well.
The sideboard is somewhat lacking, but we should not sideboard that many cards - it is the opponent who should care about us, not otherwise! Reality Hemorrhage is a smart idea to fight those pesky Kor Firewalkers / Burrenton Forge Tenders, specially if you combine it with Skullcrack
To be honest: Modern is not as expensive as many people think - we just need to have good ideas, and test them out. Don't forget to test this! What's not to love about those tiny goblins?
